A lightweight Second Life and OpenMetaverse viewer
It’s time for another Radegast release; this time v2.52. This is a small release bringing a few crash/freeze fixes and extended sound and media preferences which can be found in the media tab. The installer has also had improvements made and crash reporting is more robust.

it looks like SLVoice is broken again with this latest release, unless you’re still distributing that separately?
I’m really happy to see that Radegast is getting some updates again, and I look forward to seeing more. Anything said in this comment isn’t to be intentionally negative, just to give feedback. I’m also making a lot of comparisons to version 2.18, which was the last and most stable version of Radegast. I am currently on the most up-to-date version (2.52). There is a pre-release of version 2.53 which may address some of the issues I found, but I’m not tech-savvy enough to understand the changelog, so can only comment on my experience.
I’m happy to see that Radegast now has an “ignore conference” function. It was so needed, after the recent trolls using bots to flood masses of IMs with conferences. From what I saw, some of these conferences were being used to trigger antiviruses.
Some things haven’t changed yet. I was using verison 2.18 because opening 3D Scene on newer versions caused Radegast to immediately crash. This still happens unfortunately. I’ve followed all the possible solutions, but nothing has worked. Likely a compatibility issue. Personally, as someone only using it for the text-viewer, I can ignore this problem, but it is worth pointing out.
Even though, in theory, I should be able to use the x86 versions of Radegast, the .msi being labelled as the most compatible version, none of them would start after installing, and none of the suggested solutions worked. But the x64-bit versions started just fine.
Some things have sadly gotten worse. There’s a new bug that causes detatched items to still register as being attached. There is a work-around; by navigating to the folder that has the detached item, right clicking the folder and detaching all items within it.
Lastly is something that was claimed to be improved in the previous version, but it definitely wasn’t. Memory useage. On Version 2.18, I would typically see around 100 – 150mb, which is perfect and nicely light weight. On version 2.52 (and presumably 2.51), I’m seeing it jumping up to 800mb so far, and might go higher. It’s not a lot, but when the previous update was supposed to use less RAM, it feels like something has gone wrong.
Unfortunately, avoiding conference spam is the only use I can see for the updated versions of Radegast. Version 2.18 is more stable, uses less Memory, and doesn’t have the newer bugs.
